Located in the quiet town of West Lafayette, Indiana, Westminster Village has stood for over 30 years as a place retirees from all over the country can call home. Westminster Village is located in the center of the West Lafayette business and governmental area, and within two blocks are numerous grocery, clothing, and drug stores; fast food and restaurant facilities; a number of banks, out-patient emergency care facilities and the West Lafayette City Hall and police and fire stations. An extensive city-wide walking trail runs along the West boundary line of the Village.

History

From its inception, Westminster Village has shared strong ties with Purdue University. In fact, land for the development was purchased at an attractive price and with the encouragement of Purdue University and the Purdue Research Foundation. Developed and constructed by Presbyterian Housing Program, Inc., the three apartment buildings with approximately 225 Independent Living apartments and the Health Center with 38 beds were opened and occupied during 1976 and 1977.  The first Cottages were constructed and occupied in 1979. In 1981 ownership of Westminster Village was transferred to a not-for-profit corporation with ownership vested in a local Board of Directors. Village residents sit on the Board of Directors along with local civic, business and university leaders.

The Courtyard was added in 1988, providing 20 large Assisted Living care rooms. In 1991 the Health Center was expanded to 46 beds. In 2005 the original Assisted Living apartments were converted to Health Center units, a Memory Center unit was added, and one wing of the original Independent Apartment buildings were converted to Assisted Living units. New Cottage homes are continually being added to the 23 original free standing Cottage homes as they are purchased. Plans call for 50-60 Cottage homes when the new construction is completed. Management services for the Village are provided by Cooperative Residential Services of America, Inc. CRSA manages over forty retirement communities in the United States and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.

Westminster Village Foundation

The Westminster Village Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation established in 1982 to receive federally tax deductible gifts. Those gifts may be used to assist residents of Westminster Village whose funds have been partially or wholly exhausted because of illness, inflation or other justifiable depletion; to fund the cost of residency of poor and indigent elderly persons; to provide funds for special religious, musical, social, artistic, educational, recreational and health care programs; projects and facilities specially designed to benefit residents of the Village and elderly persons who reside in the general community; to provide funds for research into the social, economic, psychological, religious, spiritual and health care problems of the elderly; and to foster and promote educational programs and facilities specially designed to aid elderly persons in living happier, productive and more useful lives in their senior years. Village residents are members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors along with local civic, business and university leaders.

Continuing Care

Westminster Village is a continuing care provider which means when you move into your new home, you'll never have to leave again. Whether you're ready for Apartment-style living, a custom-built home, assisted living or complete care facilities, Westminster Village is ready to welcome you at any point in your life.

The Buildings

At Westminster Village we have 154 independent apartments divided between three large apartment wings physically attached to the social hub, 21 independent living ranch style homes in our original neighborhood, and during 2005 we started building the first of 38 new homes in our new neighborhood. During 2005 we also opened a state of the art Licensed Residential (Assisted Living) wing, consisting of 38 apartments and a remodeled 47-bed comprehensive care facility (the Pavilion Health Center) along with a 10-bed Memory Care Unit. All of the above complete our continuing-care community.

The future of Westminster Village involves more than buildings. It includes ways to foster community spirit, to facilitate new opportunities for relationships and purpose and to encourage individual growth. Westminster Village is a community of people united by a common interest in living each day of life with expectation and excitement.
