Village Mission StatementWestminster Village works together with senior adults, each living their own life story, motivated by individual sense of purpose and encouraged by community, in a secure and supportive environment. HistoryWestminster Village is a place to feel at home and a part of a community with strong ties to the past. From its inception, Westminster Village has shared a strong bond with Purdue University. In fact, land for the development was purchased at an attractive price and with the encouragement of Purdue University and the Purdue Research Foundation. Developed and constructed by Presbyterian Housing Program, Inc., the three apartment buildings with approximately 225 Independent Living apartments and the Health Center with 38 beds were opened and occupied during 1976 and 1977. The first homes were constructed and occupied in 1979. In 1981, ownership of Westminster Village was transferred to a not-for-profit corporation with ownership vested in a local volunteer Board of Directors. Village residents serve on the Board of Directors along with local civic, business and university leaders. The Courtyard was added in 1988, providing 20 large Assisted Living care rooms. In 1991 the Health Center was expanded to 46 beds. In 2005 the original Assisted Living apartments were converted to Health Center units and one wing of the original Independent Apartment buildings was converted to Assisted Living units. Between 2004 and 2008, 36 additional homes were constructed for a total of 57 freestanding homes. LeadershipAs the area’s preferred retirement address, Westminster Village draws heavily upon the support and involvement of outstanding individuals in the local community. The carefully selected Board of Directors provides the know-how to assure that the community has a strong business foundation. Members are well-respected leaders in the Greater Lafayette community. |
