About one-half of Westminster residents have made a gift in their own name to the Foundation. Donations to the Westminster Village Foundation are deductible for federal tax purposes.
To recognize those individuals and organizations whose accumulated gifts to the Westminster Village Foundation have reached $5,000, the Builders’ Award was established in 2002. This recognition is an important stepping stone to the qualifying level of $10,000 for The Winfield F. Hentschel Award, and of $25,000 for The Richard A. and Violet B. Road Award. In 2009, The Rachel Road Award was established for gifts reaching $100,000 and The Mary Jane Carr Award was established for gifts reaching $250,000. Those listed below have made a generous personal contribution to benefit past, present and future residents.

The Mary Jane Carr Award (Diamond Level)
Miss Mary Jane Carr (1913-2007) was born on a farm near Hobbs, Indiana. She attended Butler University from 1931 to 1933, was a 1935 graduate of DePauw University and received her B.A. degree in Library Sciences from the University of Illinois in 1942 and her M.A. degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1952. Miss Carr was employed in the Purdue University libraries from 1942 to 1957 as a cataloger and head of the Cord Preparation Unit. She was head librarian at Rockford College and was the acquisition librarian at DePauw University from 1963 until her retirement in 1978. She moved into her independent apartment on the third floor of “A” Building in October 1978 and indicated she greatly enjoyed her life at Westminster Village. Near the end of her life she moved back to the Tipton, Indiana, area to be near the surviving members of her family. We acknowledge, with gratitude, the generous contribution (in excess of $500,000) Miss Carr has made to the Westminster Village Foundation from her estate.
“The Legacy Circle”
The Westminster Village Foundation established “The Legacy Circle”. A commitment to the “Legacy Circle” is an informal way to indicate your intent to leave a gift for the benefit of Westminster residents. To become a member of the “Legacy Circle” you need only advise the Foundation that you have made provision in your will to make a gift or that the Foundation has been added as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy. With great gratitude we recognize the “Legacy Circle” members.
