What is a continuing care retirement community?

A continuing care retirement community, or CCRC, provides independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care as well as a full range of health care and supportive services all on one campus. Residents can benefit from an active lifestyle and always have peace of mind knowing that their future needs will be met without having to relocate outside the community.

What is the difference between a fee-for-service CCRC and Lifecare CCRC?

Statistics show that only a small percentage of people will ever need nursing care. At a fee-for-service community like Westminster Village, residents pay for higher levels of health care services only if they are needed. In a Lifecare community, residents make pre-payment, usually in the form of higher entrance fees and monthly fees, for all levels of health care services, whether or not the higher levels of care are ever needed.

Who operates this community?

Westminster Village is managed by CRSA, a Lifecare Services Company, an on-site professional management team. They are guided and governed by a dedicated 9-person Board of Directors consisting of 6 community leaders and 3 Westminster Village residents, all of who serve without compensation.

I’m not sure I’m ready for a retirement community. Shouldn’t I wait until I need to move?

May I bring my car?

Of course! Most of our residents continue to drive. Most of our single-family homes have two-car garages. Residents of apartment buildings have easy, convenient access to ample parking.

May I decorate my residence as I wish?

We invite you to make yourself at home by furnishing and decorating your apartment or house. Choices also abound during the renovation of existing apartments and homes.

What kind of entrance fee does Westminster Village require?

Westminster offers two entrance fee options so residents may choose the plan that suits them best. The 90% Refundable plan requires the highest entrance fee but 90% is returned in full to you or your heirs. The traditional plan, which features the lowest entrance fee, offers a refund that decreases over a period of 4 years. In addition, the apartments are available as monthly rentals.

Do you allow pets?

How do I know if I can afford it?

Many people make the mistake of thinking that retirement communities are too expensive. In reality, the cost of living at Westminster Village compares very favorably with the cost of maintaining your own home. Depending upon the residence and contract that you choose, many things that you pay for now, such as utilities, insurance, home maintenance costs and property taxes, may be covered by your monthly fee.

What is included in the monthly service fee?

Your monthly service fee includes the cost of all interior and exterior maintenance of your residence, which includes housekeeping. In the houses, lawn and landscape care, snow removal, window washing and irrigation maintenance and some utilities (water, sewer, trash & recycling, cable and water softener service) are included. In the apartments, additionally there is a daily meal, utilities, weekly flat-linen laundry service and a 24-hour call system. All residents enjoy the wellness programs, planned community activities and entertainment, scheduled transportation to grocery and mall. Telephones are the responsibility of the resident. Cable computer service is offered at a discounted rate.

Is the monthly fee subject to change?

Monthly fees typically are adjusted annually. These adjustments help the community maintain the level of service residents expect, while compensating for inflation and other operating cost changes. Prior to move-in, residents may wish to consult with their financial counselors to ensure that they will be able to live comfortably at Westminster Village despite inflation and its effect on fees.

What happens to my initial deposit?

Your 100% refundable initial deposit for Future Resident Wait List will be applied to your choice of Entrance Fee or monthly service fee, unless you decide to live elsewhere, in which case it will be refunded fully.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, Westminster Village has a waiting list. With an application and $1,000 initial deposit, your name will be placed on our priority list in the order in which it was received. As residences become available, you will be notified — if you are not ready, or don’t like the particular unit, we will move on to the next eligible future resident. You will not lose your place if you should decide to pass up the residence and wait for another.
