Satisfied Volunteers Eileen Clawson and Harriet Smith Stay Busy

For Westminster Village residents and volunteers Eileen Clawson and Harriet Smith, being idle just isn’t an option. “I like staying busying and doing things for others, “says Eileen. “If I didn’t have anything to do, I’d find something.”

“As someone who lives in the community and is not a resident at Westminster Village, I feel it is a real privilege to be able to come into The Village and volunteer. I have volunteered at Westminster for less than a year; however, I have been made to feel welcome and appreciated by all the residents I have interacted with and Emily is a wonderful Volunteer Coordinator. As corny as this may sound, I sincerely feel warm inside during and after each of my volunteer activities. The residents are a joy to spend time with!”

--Beth Goodman

Beth is a Resident Companion and assists with activities, such as bingo and exercises.

“Every few weeks Purdue University Pharmacy Student Council members played bingo with the residents at Westminster. We loved getting to know the residents and there was nothing better than seeing them smile when they yelled out ‘bingo!’ We always leave with big smiles and talk about how much fun we had playing bingo with the residents at Westminster Village! We hope to continue the tradition of playing bingo!”

--Shawna Lusby

Shawna is the representative for the Purdue University Pharmacy Student Council. A group of students from the Council play bingo with residents each month.

“I just want to let you know how much my family appreciated the visit to Westminster Village. It really touched my heart to see my children interacting with the residents. We truly enjoyed the time we spent playing bingo and having ice cream. I believe this visit spoke volumes to my children...My kids want to come back this summer. I wish we were closer to your facility. The atmosphere is so positive and friendly. I pray the residents have as much fun with the memory books as we did making them.”

--Renee Wright

Renee and her family volunteered with residents in the Health Center as part of the Disney Get a Day, Give a Day program.

“I just want to thank you, from my family, for the opportunity to make the scrapbooks for the residents of your facility. It was a delight to get to meet some of the residents and play a few games of bingo and eat ice cream with them. As we left, our children went on and on about how much fun they had and how they'd like to return and do it again.

As moms, we noticed how clean and nice your facility is. We noticed that the employees seemed to be genuinely glad to be there and like they really enjoyed their jobs. They interacted so well with the residents. It was fun being part of the teasing and happiness they shared between themselves.

We feel like your facility is a top-notch facility. It was large and clean and free of odors. It had a pleasant decor and just an overall friendliness appeal. Your staff should take great pride in themselves for it. As a person who shopped for a facility such as yours just a short year ago for my own beloved Grandma, I would have LOVED to have had this available for her! If we're ever in the area again, we'll be calling to see if we can come play again. Thank you again, for this opportunity to serve!”

--Brittany Powell

Brittany and her family also volunteered with residents in the Health Center as part of the Disney Get a Day, Give a Day program.
