What if I'm not ready to give up my Independence quite yet?Living in a cottage or apartment at Westminster Village means keeping your independence; while at the same time enjoying the convenience of the services and security of the Village. You also have the comfort of knowing that your family doesn't have to worry that you have everything you need. The comment that our staff hears most often from new residents is, "I wish I would have moved sooner." The time to move is when you can take advantage of all that Westminster has to offer. What makes Westminster Village the better choice? We have an excellent history. We've had 30 years to "work the kinks out" and we're very proud of the policies and structure that has developed over those years. Westminster is a local community governed by local professionals. Everyone on our Board of Directors is a Lafayette - West Lafayette area professional or Westminster resident. We have a Resident Council that provides recommendations to the Board of Directors and we hire a retirement community management firm as a resource for information and assistance. In addition to all that, our continuing growth ensures that we will remain on the fore-front of retirement living services. The thought of moving all my "stuff" is overwhelming. What can I do?Over 1,000 of our residents have been through the same transition. You are not alone! Westminster has a list of businesses in our area that will help you deal with the moving process. The Marketing Department has several books that will help you organize your thoughts and your "stuff". And, the residents are always very happy to share their experience with you. How does the application process work?If after talks and tours, you decide Westminster Village is the place you would like to call home, the application process will begin. This process can begin immediately or take up to a year or so, depending on the situation and whether the choice is an apartment or new house. We have both financial and medical qualifications for residency, which we would be happy to explain to you. You will be given an application and a Disclosure Statement which details our contracts and policies. We think you should know all about us! When you submit your application with the $1,000 Application Fee, we do a financial review. Once this first step is completed and you are qualified we start looking at what you want in an apartment or house, such as size, location, etc. If what you want is available, the process hurries along with completion of the wellness information forms and assessment. If what you want is not currently available, you are put on the waiting list. But that doesn't mean you have to wait to enjoy life at the Village! You will always be welcome at special events, so that when you finally move in Westminster will already feel like home. Once you have picked out an apartment or house, you will complete the wellness part of the application process. Everyone's life and situation is different so we try to be as flexible as you need in the application process. The best thing you can do for yourself is come talk to us and see for yourself what life at the Village is all about. What are my financial options? You can either choose one of our two Lifetime Occupancy options, which includes a ninety-percent refund option, for every size apartment and private home. Or for a one-bedroom apartment, we do have a monthly lease option. What if I feel I am unable to afford Westminster Village? We want you to feel secure about your financial future when you move to the Village, so we take a look at your projected income/expenses over your lifetime and work with you to explore your options for residency. Where will I keep my car?Residents have several large parking lots close to their apartment building. Westminster also offers carports for an additional monthly fee. I don't like to/can't drive at night or during busy traffic time. What transportation service does Westminster offer? One of the many amenities at Westminster Village is our transportation system. We offer bus transportation to many cultural events such as Purdue Convocations, the Lafayette Symphony, and Civic Theater. During the week there is van transportation available by reservation for appointments or social events. The fee for cultural events is standardized and the fee for the van is according to mileage. I have arranged for someone to assist me in my home. Is it alright for them to help me in my Westminster apartment?Absolutely! A few residents have assistance in their Westminster homes already, although we do ask that the professional caregiver complete our screening and training program first. What is continuing care?Westminster offers a continuum of healthcare so residents can maintain the best quality of life possible. Residents in the private homes and independent-living apartments have access to the Wellness program which includes blood pressure checks and other health checks, professional medical speakers, exercise programs and visits from the Wellness nurse. If needed, residents may move to the assisted-living Courtyard or the skilled-care Health Pavilion on a permanent or temporary basis. How do I sign up for activities/events that interest me?Westminster is famous for its events! A wide variety of dance bands (yes, we have a dance floor!), classical music, and vocalists are listed on the calendar. Trips for a lunch outing or an overnight are scheduled around the Greater Lafayette area and in the Midwest. The best and brightest lecturers are invited to the Westminster podium. We have exercise, bridge, Bible Study, writing group, Happy Hour, movies and popcorn... the list is quite long! If you would like to attend an event here at the Village, just give us a call and come! Trips, cultural events and lunch outings require that you sign the Blue Book at the Concierge. It's easy to be as social or as private as you like here at the Village.
