Westminster
Village
Foundation
of West Lafayette, Indiana, Inc.
|
|
Anniversary Celebration October 10, 2007 |
|

|
|
In 1976 the first residents moved into Westminster Village. Five years later, a committee
under the chairmanship of resident Harland White recommended the
establishment of a Foundation to further the mission of Westminster Village
by providing funds for research on problems of the elderly, to foster
educational and cultural programs and facilities for the residents and the
community and to help with financial assistance for those residents who,
through no fault of their own, might outlive their financial assets.
Since its founding the Westminster Village
Foundation has contributed more than $500,000 to assist a few residents who
outlived their assets. In 2006 the Foundation provided the “seed” money to
establish the position of “Chaplain” for the Village. The current corpus of
the Foundation in restricted and unrestricted funds is slightly in excess of
$2,000,000.
About one-half of Westminster residents have made a gift of
some size in their own name to the Foundation.
The dinner and program this evening is our
expression of appreciation and thanks to the residents of Westminster Village
for their support and encouragement over the past 25 years to the Westminster
Village Foundation of West Lafayette, Indiana, Inc.

Miss Carr was born on a farm near Hobbs, Indiana.
She attended Butler University from 1931 to 1933, was a 1935 graduate
of DePauw University
and received her B.A. degree in Library Sciences from the Univ. of Illinois
in 1942 and her M.A. degree in Library Science from the Univ. of Michigan
in 1952. Miss Carr was employed in the Purdue University
libraries from 1942 to 1957 as a cataloger and head of the Cord Preparation
Unit. She was head librarian at Rockford
College and was the acquisition
librarian at DePauw
University from 1963
until her retirement in 1978. She moved into her independent apartment on the
third floor of “A” Building in October 1978 and indicated she greatly
enjoyed her life at Westminster
Village. Near the end
of her life she moved back to the Tipton, Indiana area to be near the surviving
members of her family. We acknowledge, with gratitude, the generous
contribution (in excess of $325,000) Miss Carr has made to the Westminster Village Foundation from
her estate. |

“Legacy
Circle”
A
few years ago the Westminster Village Foundation established the “Legacy
Circle”. A commitment to the “Legacy Circle” is an informal way to indicate
your intent to leave a gift for the benefit of present and future
residents. To become a member of the “Legacy Circle” you need only advise
the Foundation that you have made provision in your Will to make a gift or
that the Foundation has been added as a beneficiary of a life insurance
policy. |
